live & local
Live & Local (December 2018) was an Instagram live based performance that explored this particular social media platform in relation to the attention economy and Guy Debord's Commodity as Spectacle. Mimicking an an Instagram lifestyle blogger, I ate waffles, flirted with the camera and popped balloons - half of which were filled with fake blood and the others with confetti. The audience watched the live stream from a nearby room where depending on the wifi signal, they often heard the popping in the physical space before they heard the sound on their mobile devices. Experiencing the performance collectively yet separately. In real time, but with delay.
